A Very Berry Hike up Mount Washington

Lovely day for a hike and refreshing too as we had a bit of rain. It was warm enough and we were climbing so not a problem!!! The wildflowers were amazing and we were able to snack all the way up on salmon berries, thimble berries, blueberries and wild blackberries - yummy. Sun came out and so did the views on our way down. Great hike as there was lots of parking and almost no one else on the trail! Yay for Mount Washington.

RAW and the Seattle 11

Last week 11 of us from Team Fun, Fit, Forever rode RAW 2017. Ride around Washington from Metaline Falls in the northeast corner to La Connor in the west.

The gang: Ann, Cheryl, Cris, Deb Fe, Deb Fo, Karen W,  Linda Sc, Lloyd, Mari, Niki, Sandra

The ride: 7 days with about 485 miles and 22,000 feet elevation gain, with most of our time on Highway 20 and side roads along the way.

The days and stats *
Day 1: Metaline Falls to Kettle Falls - 81.5 miles/3625 elevation gain, high temp 107 degrees
Day 2: Kettle Falls to Lake Curlew - 66.8 miles/4580 elevation gain, high temp 102 degrees
Day 3: Lake Curlew to Tonasket - 70.5 miles/2280 elevation gain, high temp 96 degrees
Day 4: Tonasket to Brewster - 56.8 miles/1952 elevation gain, high temp 105 degrees
Day 5: Brewster to Winthrop/Twist - 53.8 miles/1870 elevation gain, high temp 99 degrees
Day 6: Winthrop/Twist to Newhalem - 77.8 miles/5348 elevation gain, high temp 85 degrees
Day 7: Newhalem to La Connor - 75.6 miles/1100 elevation gain, high temp 75 degrees
      * these are numbers from my computer and others may have similar but different stats.

It was hot the first five day, then very smokey from the forest fires the last three days. The worst being on the top of Washington Pass and unfortunately we did not get the fabulous views as we rode up! Sad for all of us, but especially for the people who came from all over the US and around the world.

Every evening a yellow jersey was given to a rider, nominated by other rider(s) for something they did for them or others on the ride. Mari was awarded the jersey one evening for helping a rider by taking care of his bee sting infection! A couple days later, Team Seattle 11 was given the jersey for their motivation and good cheer to others! Louise from Australia nominated us!!! Go Team!
